Kunigunde
|
The family tree of the Welfs in the Historia Welforum uniformly depicts the wives to the left of the husband. But here Kunigunde, who carried on the Welf line through her son, Welf IV. (d. ca. 1101), is, as representative of the Welf House, shown to the right of her husband Azzo II. of Este. It was Kunigunde's mother Imiza who did not accept the end of the Welf House in the male line. After the death of Welf III. Imiza sought a further heir in Italy. She found the heir in the son of her daughter Kunigunde (Cuniza), from her marriage with Azzo II. Thus with the death of his mother Kunigunde in 1055, Welf IV., son of Azzo II. of Este, carried on the Welf line.
