Saint Konrad
(Saint Conrad)
(d. 975)

Konrad was the son of Count Heinrich (d. ca. 934) of Altdorf (Weingarten).  He was educated at the cathedral school of Constance and was ordained. He was made provost of the cathedral and in 934 was elected bishop of Constance.  He gave his share of his inheritance to the Church and to the poor and built and renovated many churches in his see.  He accompanied emperor Otto I. (912-973) to Italy in 962, though he concentrated on ecclesiastical matters and avoided secular affairs during the forty-two years he was bishop.  He was canonized in 1123.
